What is tallow?
Tallow is a traditional, nutrient-rich fat rendered from grass-fed cattle. For generations, it has been used in cooking, soap making, and skincare.
Because its fatty acid profile is naturally similar to the oils found in our skin, tallow absorbs beautifully and helps support the skin’s natural moisture barrier. The result is deeply nourishing, long-lasting hydration without unnecessary fillers or synthetic additives.
We use high quality, grass-fed tallow as the foundation of every Joyful Rose balm.
What does tallow smell like?
High-quality, properly rendered tallow has a very mild, clean scent. When it is carefully prepared, it should not smell strong or unpleasant.
In our balms, the tallow is thoughtfully blended with nourishing oils and botanicals, creating a final product that feels soft, subtle, and pleasant on the skin.
Most people find the natural scent very gentle, and any botanical ingredients in the formula become the most noticeable part of the aroma.
Is tallow balm greasy?
Tallow is rich, but when formulated properly, it absorbs beautifully into the skin.
Because its fatty acid profile is similar to our skin’s natural oils, it tends to melt in and provide lasting nourishment without a heavy, greasy feel. A little goes a long way, and applying to slightly damp skin helps with absorption.
Why is tallow so good for my skin?

It is composed primarily of fatty acids such as oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids, which help support the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Because of this similarity, tallow absorbs easily and helps soften and condition the skin without leaving a heavy or waxy feeling.

How do I use tallow balm/butter?
Scoop a small amount and warm it between your fingers until it softens. Gently press or massage into clean skin wherever moisture is needed.
A little goes a long way. For best absorption, apply to slightly damp skin.
Do the tallow balms expire?
Our balms are anhydrous (water-free) and naturally shelf-stable. For best quality and freshness, we recommend using them within 6–12 months of purchase.
Store in a cool, dry place and avoid introducing water into the jar to maintain optimal integrity.
Should I keep it in the fridge?
Refrigeration is not necessary under normal conditions. Store your balm in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight.
Because tallow is temperature-sensitive, it may soften in warm environments. If this happens, simply allow it to cool and firm up naturally, or place it in the refrigerator for about an hour.
Texture changes do not affect quality or performance.
Why does my balm/butter look different than last time?
Because our balms are made in small batches without artificial stabilizers or synthetic additives, slight variations in color or texture can occur. These differences are normal and do not affect quality or performance.
Temperature changes during shipping or storage can also influence texture, as tallow naturally softens and firms with heat.
What is the return policy?
